Black Silicon Carbide
Black Silicon Carbide (Black SIC) is produced in an electric resistance furnace from quartz sand and petroleum coke or anthracite at high temperature. The hardness and sharp particle of this material make it suitable for manufacturing of grinding wheels, coated products, wire saws, superior refractory materials and dioxide as well as for lapping, polishing and abrasives blasting.
Black SIC is harder and more friable when compared to aluminum oxide, used for grinding low tensile materials like grey iron and as well as non-metallic materials like glass, plastics and rubber. It is very hard, usually used for general grinding, heavy duty sagging, cylindrical, centerless and internal grinding, non-ferrous materials, cast iron, stainless steel and rough grinding applications, grinding marble, granite, concrete or any natural stone.
It is used in the production of bonded refractory products requiring high thermal conductivity, chemical stability, hot strength and thermal shock and abrasion resistant properties, uses refractory cements, loose refractory grains, electric heating elements. Also for the de-oxidation and re-carburation of cast iron and steel in foundries, it is used in the foundry industry for electric furnace production gray, ductile and malleable iron. It is an excellent source of carbon and silicon, promoting nucleation and rendering the iron more responsive to inoculcation, deoxidizing the iron, which enhances furnace lining life.
