Garnet Blasting Media
Products Description
Garnets are valuable in a variety of industrial applications due to their hardness and abrasion resistance. They are often used as abrasives in water jet cutting, sand blasting, and as filter media in water filtration systems. Garnet's durability and chemical resistance make it ideal for these uses.

Products Features
Optical properties: Different types of garnets come in many different colors, including red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, black, pink, and transparent. Due to the high vanadium content, its color changes from blue-green to purple under incandescent light. Some other types of garnets have the property of color change. The light wave transmission properties of various garnets range from transparent samples with gem quality to opaque abrasives for industrial use. The luster of the minerals can be classified as glassy and resinous.
Crystal structure: Garnet is a silicate mineral with a general chemical formula of X3Y2(SiO4)3. Garnet crystals belong to the isometric system, that is, the lattice has three axes of equal length and perpendicular to each other. Garnets do not cleave, so when they break under pressure, they produce obvious irregular pieces.
Hardness: Because the chemical composition of different types of garnet varies greatly, some types have stronger atomic chemical bonds than others. Therefore, these mineral groups exhibit hardness ranging from about 6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. Harder types such as almandine are often used as abrasives.
Products Applications
1. Sandblasting: Garnet sand has moderate hardness, high stacking density, no free silicon dioxide, good toughness and high specific gravity, and is an ideal environmentally friendly sandblasting material.
2. Used for water jet cutting: Using garnet abrasive as the cutting medium, relying on high-pressure water jet to cut the base parts, it is more commonly used for cutting oil and gas pipelines, steel and other parts. It is a new, safe and environmentally friendly cutting method.
3. Filtering medium: In purifying drinking water or wastewater, granular garnet is mainly used as the lower layer medium of the filter bed. It is a new type of water filtration material. It is also suitable for non-ferrous metal beneficiation and oil drilling mud weighting agent.
4. Functional filler: Mainly used in automotive brake parts, special tires, special building products and other fields, and can be used as wear-resistant floor materials for the construction of highway pavements, runways, industrial floors, parking lots, sports venues, etc.
