Garnet Abrasive Blasting
Products Description
Applied Garnet for Blasting Abrasives is derivative from Andradite mineral deposits and mined Almandine. Garnet has a high density and its physical features make it the most highly impressive, efficacious and harmless abrasive for both wet and dry blasting.
Garnet sand is an advantageous abrasive, and a prevalent replacement for silica sand in sandblasting. Garnet is used to cutting steel and other materials in water jets when mixed with very high-pressure water. Garnet extracted from hard rock has more angular in form, so it is more suitable for water jet cutting. Therefore, it would be more efficient in cutting.

As an abrasive, Garnet can be broadly separated into two classes, blasting grade and water jet grade. The garnet is crushed to finer grains as it is mined and collected; all pieces which are higher than 60 mesh (250 micrometers) are usually used for sandblasting. The pieces between 60 mesh (250 micrometers) and 200 mesh (74 micrometers) are usually used for water jet cutting. The remaining garnet pieces that are finer than 200 mesh (74 micrometers) are used for polishing glass and lapping. Regardless of the usage, the smaller ones are used for finer finishes and the larger grain sizes are used for quicker work.
Some of the significant benefits of using Garnet Abrasive except quality, safety and cost-savings features, include low dust production which is safer for workers, ideal for restricted spaces, high recycle-ability which is almost 3 to 6 times recyclable depending on the application, high hardness, fast and clean abrasive, low friability, environmentally-responsible, cost-effective and long-lasting.

Garnet is one of the very best abrasive options for many blast shop operations. Some of the benefits are listed below. High Speed, very Low Dust and the lowest Consumption rate compared to conventional abrasives highlight the advantageous of Garnet. Some of the other benefits are listed below.
Extremely hard (8 MOH Hardness) blast abrasive
Very low dust generation
Recyclable up to 5 times
Used for Dry Blasting, Slurry Blasting, and predominately the predominate media for Waterjet
Available in grit sizes of including 80 & 30x60 to #120 (2-4 mil profile)
Lower consumption rates as compared to conventional abrasives
By recycling and lowering lbs/sq.ft. consumed, greatly reduces abrasive cost and waste
< .5% Free Silica
Available in 50 lb bags and 2000 lb Super Sacks
Very high density - 145 lbs/cu. ft.
Tech support, technical data sheets and SDS available from TCR Blast Abrasives
Meets MIL-A-22262B(SH) and approved for NAVSEA and Department of Defense
