Tabular Corundum Refractories

Chemical composition] Al2O3. Al content of 53.2%, O content of 46.8%; trace Fe, Ti, Cr, Mn, V, Si, etc. can be analogous to homogeneous or mechanical admixtures exist in corundum. Common rutile, hematite, ilmenite inclusions. Tabular Corundum exhibits high thermal shock resistance and high strength.

The scanning electron microscope photos show that the surface of the plate-shaped corundum grains is not as smooth as the surface of the fused corundum grains, but rather rough with shallow hemispherical pores. This surface structure promotes its reaction and mechanical interlock with the matrix to increase the strength of the refractory.
