Aluminum Oxide is a commonly used tough, recyclable material that is used to quickly remove paint, rust, and scale. It also provides adhesion prior to painting. Aluminum Oxide (AL2O3) is a synthetic, fused aluminum oxide with a Mohs hardness of 9, angular in shape, and moderate in density. This abrasive is designed to support blasting pressures up to 90 PSI. Aluminum Oxide is ideal for light deburring and surface preparation (bond strength) prior to painting and coating. Aluminum Oxide produces a matte finish that is slightly dull. Through a grit blasting system, the media life of aluminum oxide is approximately 10-12 times that of grit blasting media.
Applications of Alumina Blasting:
Cleaning of investment castings
Removing scale from steam turbines
Preparing surfaces for thermal spray coatings
Rust removal
Removing hard oxides (titanium, zirconium, etc.)
Descaling
Descaling with heat
Sanding or etching glass
Monumental signs
Overhauling aircraft engines

Aluminum Oxide is a powerful, multi-edged abrasive that is driven by air to penetrate the workpiece, leaving an extremely clean etched surface. It is suitable for stone surfaces such as marble, granite, glass and metal. It can be made into blocks with multiple sharp edges.
